Er schloss zwar eine Elektroniker-Ausbildung ab, verbrachte aber damals schon das komplette 4. Lehrjahr mit Software Entwicklung. So wurde aus seinem Hobby auch sein Beruf.

Obwohl sich das Tool-Set, die Hilfsmittel und Arbeitsgeräte wesentlich veränderten sind die Grundideen doch immer noch dieselben geblieben: Als Software Entwickler gilt es, reale Probleme und Hürden zu verstehen und dazu passende Lösungen zu kreieren, damit der Alltag von Anwendern vereinfacht wird. Die täglich neue Problemstellungen zusammen mit dem schnellen Technologiewandel führen zu einer sehr vielseitigen und abwechslungsreichen Tätigkeit, in welcher immer wieder neues geschaffen wird.

Mit Tegonal wollten und wollen wir einerseits eigenen Ideen Umsetzen, andererseits ein Umfeld schaffen, in welchem alle Mitarbeiter gemeinsam und gleichberechtigt Entscheidungen fällen und mittragen können. Als Software Entwickler und Architekt mit einer schnellen Auffassungsgabe sieht er seine Stärken darin, sich schnell in neue Themengebiete mit anderen Herausforderungen einarbeiten zu können und trotzdem den Fokus aufs Wesentliche nicht zu verlieren.

Als Teilzeitarbeitender Familienvater begleitet er seine zwei Kinder auf ihrem Weg zum erwachsen werden. Er ist leidenschaftlicher Unihockey-Spieler und -Betreuer. In den Sommermonaten beschäftigt er sich auch gerne kreativ im Garten oder nimmt das eine oder andere Umbauprojekt in Angriff.

As a part-time working family man, he accompanies his two children on their way to adulthood. He is a passionate floorball player and coach. In the summer months, he also enjoys being creative in the garden or tackling one or the other remodeling project.

Why is application maintenance important?

We recommend our customers to regularly update their deployed applications. This applies particularly to publicly available web applications, but not only to them.

Unmaintained software poses a threat to the IT infrastructure. These are usually based on external components such as open source libraries, server or frontend frameworks and platforms. These are regularly checked for new attack vectors and corresponding corrections are made available. By updating these dependencies in a timely manner, known attack possibilities are prevented.

However, if updates are neglected, users, the data managed within them, or even the infrastructure on which the application is operated, will be exposed to the risk of a successful attack.

In the case of server-side security vulnerabilities, there is a risk that an attacker could gain access to the infrastructure and, for example, carry out a ransomware attack, which has massive effects on operations.

How can security vulnerabilities be detected?

For 25 years, security holes have been collected and categorized in an international, community-based program (CVE). Through integration, an automatic check can be built into the delivery of a software.

> But be careful: A check only at build time of an application is only sufficient if it is also executed regularly, as weaknesses in the used libraries are often only discovered later.

If applications are based on components that are no longer maintained, no updates are available either.

Even if the application fulfills its function without updates, measures should be taken due to the mentioned security risks.

An initial analysis shows which attack possibilities and risks exist. Based on this, targeted measures can be taken to minimize the risks. These range from securing the infrastructure to replacing individual components, migrating or replacing the application.
